How a CGS job works

The same four steps on every job, big or small.

  1. Walk-through

We look at the job with you, measure, and talk about what you want.

  2. Written price

Itemized, with a start date and how long the job will take, before any work begins.

  3. The work

One crew, every trade in the room, in the right order. We clean up every day.

  4. Final walk-through

We go over the finished job with you and fix anything you're not happy with.

Where we work

Based in Medford. We take jobs up to about 45 minutes away, and drop ceilings all the way out to the Hamptons.

Who we are

CGS Carpentry & Home Renovations is a carpentry and renovation company based in Medford, owned by Christopher Salzillo. The business holds Suffolk County Home Improvement License HI-73429, in Christopher’s name. We’re one crew, and that crew handles every trade in the room: framing, sheetrock, wall smoothing (skim coat), patching, paint, trim, doors, windows, built-ins, cabinets, tile and flooring. Outside, we build and repair decks, fix roof leaks and power wash.

Carpentry is in the name, and it’s still at the center of what we do. Everything else follows from the same idea: if you’re the one putting up the trim, you care whether the wall behind it is straight.

What we believe about the work

One crew, the whole room

Most renovations need five or six trades. When each one is a different company, the homeowner ends up running the job. You wait on the painter because the sheetrock guy ran late, and when something doesn’t look right, everyone points at someone else. We don’t work that way. Our crew does the whole room, in the right order, so there’s no gap between trades and no question about who owns the finish.

The finish is the job

The walls are the room. Tight miters, seams that don’t show through paint, a straight grid on a drop ceiling, a thin, clean caulk line where the trim meets the wall. These are the details you see every day after we leave, and they’re where we spend our time. We tape, mud and sand three coats before primer. We fit trim to the wall it’s going on, not the other way around.

Written price, clear schedule, clean house

You’ll know what the job costs and when it starts before any work begins. Every job gets a written, itemized price with a start date and how long the job will take. While we work, the area stays closed off, and we clean up at the end of every day, because you’re still living there.

How we work with you

It starts with a phone call or the form. We call you back, set up a walk-through, and look at the job together. We’ll tell you what we see, including the things you might not want to hear, like a leak that needs fixing before the ceiling, or a subfloor that won’t hold tile as it is. Then you get the written price. When the work is done, we walk through it with you and take care of anything that isn’t right.

Where we work

From our home base in Medford, we work in Sayville, Blue Point, Stony Brook and Lake Grove, and in towns up to about 45 minutes away, including Patchogue, Holbrook, Port Jefferson, Smithtown and Riverhead. We install drop ceilings all the way out to the Hamptons. If you want to talk about a project, call 631-745-9982.
