Room remodeling in Suffolk County, one crew start to finish

Bedrooms, living rooms, dens and home offices. We handle the walls, trim, doors, floors and paint, so you're not lining up five different contractors for one room.

Why one room turns into a months-long headache

Most of the time it isn't the work itself. It's how the work gets split up.

  1. Waiting between trades

The sheetrock guy finishes, then the room sits empty until the painter can fit you in, then again for the floor guy.

Our same crew moves from one stage to the next, in order.

  2. Nobody owns the finish

Trim that doesn't meet the wall, a floor that stops short of the door casing, and each trade says it's the other one's problem.

One crew does every trade, so every gap is ours to get right.

  3. The price keeps growing

A quote that looked fine on day one gets bigger once the old walls come down.

If we find something behind a wall, we show you and put it in writing before we touch it.

  4. Dust through the whole house

You're still living there, and the rest of the house ends up coated.

We close off the room, cover the path in and out, and clean up every day.

How a room remodel works with us

You'll know the price and the start date before any work begins.

  1. Walk the room with you

We look at the walls, ceiling, floor, doors and windows, and ask how you want to use the room when it's done.

  2. Written, itemized price

Every part of the job listed out, with a start date and how long the job will take.

  3. Rough work

Tear-out, any framing changes, then new or repaired sheetrock taped and finished.

  4. Finish work

Wall smoothing where it's needed, doors, trim, flooring and paint, in the order that keeps each step clean.

  5. Walk-through

We walk the finished room with you and take care of anything you want touched up.

What can go into your room

Pick what the room needs. Some rooms just need walls and paint. Others get everything.

Walls
Patch what's there, smooth it with a skim coat, or strip it to the studs and hang new sheetrock.
Doors and trim
Swap hollow, dented doors for solid ones and replace thin old casing and baseboard with wider trim.
Floors
Vinyl plank that stands up to kids and pets, or tile where the room needs it.
Built-ins
Bookshelves around a window or fireplace, or a desk wall for a home office.
Layout changes
Move a wall, close off a doorway, or frame in a closet. Bigger layout changes may need a permit, so check with your town's building department.
Paint
Walls, ceiling, trim and doors, done last so nothing gets scuffed after it's finished.

Room remodeling for Suffolk County homes

Room remodeling in Suffolk County usually starts the same way: a room that still has the original trim, hollow doors that don’t latch, walls patched a dozen times and a floor that’s seen better days. You know it needs more than paint, but you don’t want to hire a sheetrock guy, a carpenter, a floor installer and a painter and then try to line them all up.

That’s the job we do. Our crew takes the room from tear-out to the last coat of paint. You deal with one crew and one number, and there’s one written price that covers the whole room.

The houses we see most

A lot of our remodels are in high ranches, capes, colonials and split-levels built between the 1960s and the 1990s. They tend to have the same things in common. The upstairs living room of a high ranch often has thin trim and a flat ceiling that shows every crack. Cape bedrooms upstairs have sloped ceilings and short knee walls, which take careful sheetrock and trim work. Split-levels have short runs of stairs and a lot of doorways, so doors and casing make a big difference.

We look at all of that when we walk the room, so the plan fits your house and not just a checklist.

The order matters

A good remodel follows a set order. Rough work first, then sheetrock and wall smoothing, then doors and trim, then floors, then paint. Doing it out of order is how you end up with scuffed paint, trim that doesn’t sit on the floor, or a new floor scratched by ladders. Because it’s all the same crew, the order doesn’t slip.

Starting a bigger project?

If you’re thinking about more than one room, we can plan them together. A lot of homeowners start with a living room or bedroom and then move on to the basement. See all our remodeling work for more.

What the written price covers

Your price lists each part of the room separately: tear-out, walls, doors, trim, floors and paint. That way you can see where the money goes and decide what stays in. If you want to hold off on the floor or keep the old doors, we can take that line out and you’ll know exactly what changes. The price also includes a start date and how long the job will take, so you can plan around it. When the room is done, we clean up and walk through it with you before we call it finished.

Before we come out

It helps to think about a few things ahead of time:

  • How you’ll use the room when it’s done
  • What bothers you most about it now
  • Whether you want to keep the doors and trim or replace them
  • What kind of floor you’re picturing
  • Any other rooms you might want done at the same time

Room remodeling questions

How much does it cost to remodel a room?

It depends on the size of the room, whether the walls get patched or replaced, the doors, trim and flooring you pick, and whether anything is being moved. We walk the room and give you a written, itemized price before any work starts.

Can we stay in the house while you work?

Almost always. We close off the room, protect the floors between the door and the work area, and clean up at the end of every day.

What if you find a problem once the walls are open?

We stop and show you. Then we write up what it is and what it adds before we do anything about it. Nothing gets added to your bill without you seeing it first.

Do you handle electrical and plumbing?

We're a carpentry and renovation crew. If your room needs new wiring or plumbing, tell us at the walk-through and we'll talk through how that part gets handled and where it fits in the schedule.

How long does a room remodel take?

It depends on how much is changing. Your written price includes a start date and how long the job will take.

Do I need a permit?

Paint, trim, floors and new sheetrock usually don't. Moving walls, adding a bedroom or changing a layout might. Check with your town's building department, like the Town of Brookhaven or the Town of Islip.
